Who We Work With
Newcomers
Newcomers are those who are born abroad who have come to New Zealand to live, learn or work. This includes migrants, refugees and their families.
Settling into life in a new country is not always easy. The biggest challenge can be to know where to find all the information you need to settle well. Settlement Support, Palmerston North, connects newcomers from all backgrounds with local information and services to help them settle in the community.
Our service is free, confidential and available to all newcomers in Palmerston North and the surrounding areas.
Service Providers
Local service providers can use Settlement Support as a resource to help them connect with newcomers and meet their settlement needs.
This can include:
- Linking companies and organisations with ethnic contacts for groups who can benefit from their services.
- Providing staff training to help organisations deliver better service to newcomers.
- Offering advice on meeting the needs of newcomers in the local area.
Businesses – support for employing newcomers/migrants
We can help businesses who employ, or are considering employing migrants, in a number of areas.
These include:
- Helping employers meet the needs of migrants in the workplace
- Connecting employers seeking skilled workers with jobseekers who meet their requirements
- Supporting and working with ethnic staff to help them adjust to the New Zealand workforce
- Answering employers’ questions about employing skilled migrants
- Running workshops on topics relating to skilled migrants in the workplace
- And more
