When you first arrive you will likely need to:

1. Apply for a personal tax IRD [Inland Revenue Department] Number
2. Open a bank account
3. Find a place to live
4. Find a doctor
5. Find a school or child care for your children
6. Get a job or training
7. Join the library
8. Improve your English confidence and skills
9. Get a local map, available from the I-Site or the Feilding Information Centre.
10. Get to know people in you local area.  The most usual way to get to know Kiwis is by just talking to them, joining a sports or hobby club, or though work or school. People are generally interested in newcomers to our country but won’t like to be nosey and bother you. Make the first move.
